One early morning, Anita opened her eyes while it was still dark, knowing that the day will break soon and she will have to get up and prepare for school. She wished the weekend could be extended so she can sleep some more. Anita wondered why people, especially parents, are very strict and harsh. They make things difficult for young people, making them go through pain and hardship in life, by insisting they get up early in the morning to go to school even on a cold day, reading and studying when its not convenient, forcing them to do house chores and generally, not allowing them to have fun. She decided to catch few more winks before her alarm went off. Just about that time, the clock began to sing. Oh God! She exclaimed and looked at her bedside table clock. It was exactly 5am! For a moment, she thought of ignoring the alarm. But then she remembered that her mum, Mrs. Isaac will soon come into her room to drag her out of bed for the morning prayers. Just then, she heard her mum shout, “Anitaaa!!”
She jumped out of bed, made her way to the sitting room where her dad, mum and Julius were already waiting. Mrs Isaac led the Praise and Worship session, while Mr Isaac led the prayers. After prayers, Anita picked up the broom to sweep the house. Every morning, Anita must do her house chores before leaving the house. It doesn’t matter if she misses breakfast or has to run all the way in order not to be flogged at school. So, she rushed through to finish up the cleaning. To make her work faster, she usually washed the plates and dishes the night before and in the morning, she will only sweep the floors and clean the furniture while her mum gives Julius a bath and prepares their breakfast. Mr. Isaac is a business man. He runs a spare parts shop not far from their house while Mrs. Isaac is a hair stylist who attends to her customers at the house.
While eating her breakfast, Anita remembered the N1000 sports levy she was supposed to pay for the school Inter house sports, so she asked her dad for the money. Mr. Isaac replied angrily, “Young lady, where will I get that kind of money this early morning? Do I have a bank in the house? All you know how to do is ask for money, money for this, money for that! I dont have that kind of money. You will get it day after tomorrow.”
“Day after tomorrow?!” Anita protested. “Yes, day after tomorrow”, her dad replied, “Or you can ask from your mum if she can give you.”
